UK assistant coach suspended amid misconduct investigation
LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — University officials confirmed that an assistant coach with the University of Kentucky has been suspended pending investigation.
UK spokesperson Jay Blanton told FOX 56 that Hakon DeVries, an assistant track and cross-country coach, has been suspended with pay.
The university takes very seriously reports of inappropriate behavior. Our Office of Equal Opportunity investigates thoroughly and recommends disciplinary measures depending on the findings and specifics of each case,” Blanton confirmed.
UK Athletics noted that DeVries has worked as an assistant coach since the 2012-2013 season, working with distance runners primarily.
Before working at UK, he served as a volunteer assistant at Stanford for three seasons, according to his bio page. The DeVries suspension comes on the heels of longtime swim coach Lars Jorgensen, who resigned in June 2023 amid a federal sexual abuse lawsuit involving former UK swimmers.
