BREAKING: Jontavius Wyman, One of Nation’s Top 12 WR Prospects, Flips Commitment from Georgia to Miami
In a move that has sent shockwaves through the college football recruiting landscape, Jontavius Wyman, one of the top 12 wide receiver prospects in the nation for the 2025 class, has flipped his commitment from the University of Georgia to the University of Miami. The high-profile reversal is a major recruiting victory for head coach Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes as they continue to build an elite offensive class.
Wyman, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound playmaker out of Carver High School in Columbus, Georgia, had been committed to the Bulldogs since October 2024. Long considered a cornerstone piece of Georgia’s future offense, Wyman brings size, speed, and elite route-running ability that made him a coveted target across the Power Five. He is ranked as the No. 11 wide receiver in the country and a top-75 overall recruit according to multiple recruiting services.
But over the past few months, Miami quietly remained in pursuit. The Hurricanes made a strong impression during Wyman’s official visit to Coral Gables in early June, where the rising senior was said to have bonded deeply with the coaching staff, particularly wide receivers coach Kevin Beard and offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson.
Sources close to Wyman suggest that Miami’s offensive vision, opportunity for early playing time, and the chance to be a foundational piece of an ascending program played a critical role in his decision.
“I had a lot of love for Georgia, and they’re still a great program,” Wyman said in a statement posted to social media. “But after praying on it and talking with my family, I realized Miami is where I’m supposed to be. Coach Cristobal and the staff believe in me and have a plan to use my skills early and often. I’m excited to be a Cane.”
The flip is a significant blow to Georgia, which has dominated on the recruiting trail under Kirby Smart but now finds itself needing to reassess its wide receiver haul. Wyman was expected to be one of the most dynamic additions to the Bulldogs’ offense in years.
For Miami, however, this is the latest proof that the program is regaining national relevance in the recruiting world. Wyman becomes the fourth top-100 commitment in the Hurricanes’ 2025 class and the second elite offensive skill player to commit this month. With quarterback Luke Evans already on board, Wyman’s presence gives Miami a dangerous vertical threat and a future star in the making.
Analysts believe Wyman’s skillset will translate quickly to the college game. His ability to separate at the top of routes, combined with elite ball tracking and after-the-catch explosiveness, makes him a weapon in both the slot and out wide.
“This is a statement win for Miami,” said 247Sports recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong. “Flipping a talent like Wyman from Georgia is no small feat. It shows that Cristobal has Miami positioned to be a real contender for top national talent.”
With National Signing Day still months away, Wyman’s decision sets the tone for what could be a thrilling finish to the 2025 recruiting cycle.
