Brains & Brilliance on the Mound: Texas A&M’s Ryan Prager Crowned 2025 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Texas A&M left-hander Ryan Prager has been named the 2025 SEC Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, becoming the first Aggie to receive this prestigious honor. The award recognizes Prager’s exceptional achievements both on the field and in the classroom, highlighting his dual commitment to athletic excellence and academic rigor.
A redshirt junior from Dallas, Texas, Prager graduated with a degree in Finance from the Mays Business School, maintaining a 3.65 GPA. His academic dedication earned him a spot on the 2024 Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll, and he has actively engaged with the university community as a guest speaker at several Mays Business School events.
On the mound, Prager has been a cornerstone of the Aggies’ pitching staff. In the 2025 season, he made 14 starts, recording a 3-4 win-loss record with a 4.50 ERA. Over 78 innings, he struck out 67 batters while issuing only 18 walks, demonstrating control and consistency.
Prager’s journey has been marked by resilience. After undergoing Tommy John surgery that sidelined him for the entire 2023 season, he made a remarkable comeback in 2024, leading the team with 124 strikeouts over 97.2 innings and achieving a 2.95 ERA. His performance earned him multiple All-American honors and a selection by the Los Angeles Angels in the third round of the 2024 MLB Draft.
Prager’s recognition as the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year underscores the ideal of the student-athlete, excelling in both academic and athletic arenas. His leadership and dedication serve as an inspiration to teammates and peers, embodying the values of Texas A&M and the Southeastern Conference.
