Sunday featured two Big Ten matchups, with Ohio State traveling to Nebraska and Maryland hosting Rutgers. Here’s a recap of the action.
Game of the Night: Nebraska 79, Ohio State 71
On paper, this matchup looked competitive, and it played out that way. Both teams battled throughout the second half, but Nebraska found a little extra offensively to pull away with an eight-point victory.
Brice Williams was the star for the Cornhuskers, posting 24 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists. Berke Buyuktuncel also contributed 15 points. The win pushes Nebraska to 16-8 overall and 6-7 in Big Ten play. After a rough January, the Huskers have now won four straight, including three victories over top-40 opponents, positioning themselves back in the NCAA Tournament conversation.
For Ohio State, the loss drops them to 14-10 overall and 6-7 in conference play. The Buckeyes have now lost two of their last three, though both defeats came on the road against solid teams. Their focus now shifts to building momentum before the postseason, where they are still in contention for an NCAA Tournament spot.
Next up, Nebraska will host Maryland on Thursday, while Ohio State looks to bounce back at home against Washington on Wednesday.
Other Big Ten Action: No. 18 Maryland 90, Rutgers 81
Maryland entered Sunday looking to rebound from a tough loss to Ohio State, and they did just that with a solid nine-point win over Rutgers at home.
Freshman standout Derik Queen led the way with a dominant performance, recording 29 points and 15 rebounds. The win moves Maryland to 18-6 overall and 8-5 in Big Ten play, while Rutgers falls to 12-12 overall and 5-8 in the conference.
Looking ahead, Maryland will face Nebraska on the road Thursday, while Rutgers returns home to take on Iowa on Wednesday.
