Texas Longhorns, Steve Sarkisian Make Major Recruiting Move on Monday.
Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns have built their way back to being a top-tier national championship contender over the last few years.
Last season, Texas finished the year with a 13-3 overall record and a 7-1 record in the SEC. In the College Football Playoff, the Longhorns lost in the Cotton Bowl against the Ohio State Buckeyes, but completed the year as a top-four team in college football.According to 247 Sports, Dopson is the No. 8 ranked cornerback in the country and is also ranked as the No. 60 overall player in the nation. He is the No. 6 ranked recruit from the state of Florida.
Sarkisian and the Longhorns are facing a tough task of flipping Dopson from Miami, but they’re interested enough to give it a run. Dopson originally committed to the Hurricanes back on March 13 of 2025.
During the 2024-25 high school season, which was his sophomore year, Dopson recorded 16 total tackles, three interceptions, and 16 defended passes. He also had one sack, according to his MaxPreps page.In order to take the next step to win a national championship, as well as remain an elite contender for years to come, Sarkisian simply needs to continue recruiting top-tier talent in both the recruiting and transfer portal markets.
On Monday afternoon, the Longhorns made a major move in the recruiting scene.
Kenton Dopson III, a four-star 2027 cornerback from Miami, who is currently a hard commit to the Miami Hurricanes, announced on X that he has received an offer from Texas.
“Extremely blessed to receive an offer from @TexasLonghorns,” he posted on X.
