“Big 12 Bound: Former All-American Tight End Tanner Koziol Eyes Houston”

Tanner Koziol, a former All-American tight end, has made waves in the college football world with his decision to transfer to the University of Houston. This move marks a significant chapter in Koziol’s career, as he brings his impressive skill set and experience to a program looking to make its mark in the Big 12 Conference. For both Koziol and Houston, this transfer represents an opportunity to elevate their respective trajectories and redefine expectations.

Koziol’s journey to Houston has been anything but conventional. A standout at Ball State, he established himself as one of the premier tight ends in college football. Over three seasons with the Cardinals, Koziol recorded 163 receptions for 1,507 yards and 18 touchdowns, showcasing his ability to dominate as a pass-catcher. His 2024 season was particularly remarkable, as he hauled in 94 receptions for 839 yards and eight touchdowns, earning All-American honors and cementing his reputation as a top-tier talent.

Following his success at Ball State, Koziol transferred to Wisconsin during the winter transfer window, seeking new challenges and opportunities. However, his time with the Badgers was short-lived, as he re-entered the transfer portal after just a few months. This decision led him to Houston, where he is poised to make an immediate impact on a program eager to compete at the highest level.

Houston’s football program has undergone significant changes in recent years, transitioning from the American Athletic Conference to the Big 12. The move has brought new challenges, as the Cougars have faced tougher competition and struggled to find consistent success. In their first two seasons in the Big 12, Houston posted identical 4-8 records, highlighting the need for a roster overhaul and a renewed focus on player development.

Koziol’s arrival is a key piece of Houston’s rebuilding efforts. Standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing 240 pounds, he possesses the size, athleticism, and versatility to be a game-changer for the Cougars. His ability to create mismatches against defenders and excel in jump-ball situations makes him a valuable asset in both the passing game and the red zone. Additionally, his experience and leadership qualities are expected to have a positive influence on his teammates, particularly younger players looking to develop their skills.

Under head coach Willie Fritz, Houston has made a concerted effort to strengthen its roster through the transfer portal. Koziol joins a group of talented newcomers, including former Texas A&M quarterback Connor Weigman and Rice running back Dean Connors, as well as several offensive linemen and wide receivers. Together, these additions aim to revitalize an offense that struggled in 2024, averaging just 14 points per game and ranking near the bottom of the FBS in scoring.

For Koziol, the move to Houston represents a fresh start and an opportunity to showcase his talents on a bigger stage. As he prepares for his final season of eligibility, he is determined to make the most of this opportunity and help the Cougars achieve success in the Big 12. His journey serves as a testament to the power of perseverance and adaptability, making him a player to watch in the upcoming season.
