Baylor guard Robert Wright plans to enter NCAA Transfer Portal

Baylor guard Robert Wright III has made the decision to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, marking a significant moment in his college basketball career. The news comes after an eventful freshman season at Baylor, where Wright had already shown flashes of brilliance. A standout performance that included a record-breaking 13 assists in a single game against Norfolk State showcased his potential as a playmaker for the Bears.

Wright, who hails from Philadelphia, spent a year at Montverde Academy in Florida, one of the most prestigious basketball programs in the country, to prepare for his transition to college basketball. His time at Montverde allowed him to hone his skills and get ready for the rigors of Division I basketball. After committing to Baylor, he became a key part of a deep and talented team.

In his freshman season with the Bears, Wright had moments where he looked like a future star. His vision on the court and ability to distribute the ball made him a valuable asset to Baylor’s backcourt. His 13-assist game against Norfolk State not only put him in the spotlight but also set a new standard for future Baylor freshmen. However, as is often the case with freshmen, consistency was a challenge, and Wright’s role on the team fluctuated throughout the season. Despite these ups and downs, the potential he demonstrated early on led many to believe he could develop into a key contributor for Baylor in the coming years.

Wright’s decision to enter the Transfer Portal opens up many possibilities for the talented guard. As a player with great vision, playmaking ability, and a high basketball IQ, he will be in high demand from programs looking for a skilled point guard. While his time at Baylor was marked by growing pains, the opportunity for a fresh start at another program could provide the ideal environment for Wright to further refine his game.

For Baylor, Wright’s departure is a blow to their depth in the backcourt, but the team remains stocked with talent. For Wright, this move is about finding a new opportunity where he can thrive, develop, and hopefully lead a program to success. The coming months will be crucial for Wright as he assesses his options and decides where to continue his collegiate career.
