Auburn basketball has made a major offseason splash by landing former Texas Tech guard Kevin Overton through the transfer portal. The 6-foot-5 guard is set to bring veteran experience, scoring ability, and defensive grit to Bruce Pearl’s squad.
Overton averaged 7.8 points and 3.7 rebounds per game last season while playing a key role in Texas Tech’s run to the Elite Eight. His impact went beyond the stat sheet, often providing energy, hustle, and clutch plays on both ends of the floor.
Originally from Oklahoma City, Overton began his college career at Drake University, where he started all 35 games as a freshman and averaged 11.3 points per game. His journey through college hoops has helped shape him into a reliable, battle-tested player who is expected to immediately compete for a starting role at Auburn.
With key backcourt departures like Denver Jones and Miles Kelly, Overton’s arrival comes at a crucial time. Auburn is looking to rebuild its guard rotation, and Overton’s two remaining years of eligibility offer stability and leadership.
Head coach Bruce Pearl praised Overton’s competitive edge and leadership qualities, calling him “a proven winner” who will elevate the team’s culture and performance. Auburn fans can expect Overton to be a centerpiece in the Tigers’ quest to return to the top of the SEC and make another deep NCAA Tournament run.
