The Dallas Mavericks appear to have already made their decision.
But NBA fans for 29 other teams are hoping for a draft-day miracleFormer Duke star Cooper Flagg is widely expected to become the No. 1 overall pick of the 2025 draft on June 25 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York
A key upcoming date could officially link the Mavs with Flagg.
“Cooper Flagg plans to have a private visit with the Mavericks in Dallas on June 17, sources tell ESPN,” Shams Charania tweeted.
ESPN also reported that the Mavs don’t plan to work out any other prospects for their No. 1 overall pick, which fell into their hands despite only holding a 1.8 percent chance in the lottery of obtaining that selection
Dallas jumped up 10 spots, and acquired the top pick months after a highly controversial trade that sent former franchise face Luka Doncic to LeBron James’ Los Angeles Lakers.
The Washington Wizards, Utah Jazz, San Antonio Spurs were all hoping to take Flagg with the No. 1 pick. With the leak of Flagg’s private workout, Dallas is expected to select Flagg unless something stunning happens between June 17 and 25.
But fans are still hoping — and joking — that Flagg will soon join their favorite teams.
