Arkansas’ John Calipari: ‘Somebody (at the NCAA) must have been sick’ not to put us in Lexington for March Madness…..

Title: Calipari’s March Madness Outrage: A Conspiracy or Just Bad Luck?

John Calipari, never one to hold back, didn’t mince words when discussing the NCAA’s decision to send Arkansas anywhere but Lexington for March Madness. “Somebody must have been sick,” he quipped, his voice laced with disbelief. The remark, half-joking, half-seething, fueled a firestorm of speculation. Was it incompetence? A clerical error? Or something more sinister?

For years, the NCAA’s bracketology has been a blend of logic and mystery, a system that somehow satisfies mathematicians and maddens coaches. But for Arkansas, a team clawing back to prominence under Calipari’s leadership, the snub felt deliberate. Lexington, a mere stone’s throw from Fayetteville in the world of college basketball travel, would have been a natural fit. Instead, they were shipped elsewhere, forced into unfamiliar territory while other SEC teams conveniently landed in cushier spots.

Fans erupted. Sports talk radio turned into a war zone of conspiracy theories. Was this NCAA politics? Was there an unspoken vendetta against Calipari, a coach who has never been shy about challenging the establishment? After all, his history with the NCAA is peppered with tension—investigations, vacated wins, and a constant battle between his “players first” mantra and the organization’s archaic rules.

The NCAA remained silent, as always, letting the storm rage. But in a tournament where seeding and location can make or break a team’s run, one question loomed: Was this just bad luck, or was it something more?

One thing is certain—Calipari’s Razorbacks now have a grudge. And nothing fuels a deep tournament run quite like a sense of betrayal.
