Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt has declined a substantial $7.7 million NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) offer from Tennessee, opting instead to remain with the Sun Devils and complete his college career. This decision underscores his commitment to Arizona State and his desire to leave a lasting legacy with the program.
In 2024, Leavitt transferred from Michigan State to Arizona State, where he led the team to a Big 12 championship and their first-ever College Football Playoff appearance. During the season, he threw for 2,885 yards, 24 touchdowns, and added 443 rushing yards with five touchdowns. His performance earned him Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year honors and a spot on the all-conference second team.
Despite Tennessee’s lucrative offer, Leavitt chose to sign a new NIL deal with Arizona State’s Sun Angel Collective, valuing his NIL rights at $3 million. He expressed his intention to build something special at Arizona State, stating, “I want to have a statue here and make Arizona State something that it’s never been before.”
Leavitt’s decision to stay reflects his dedication to his teammates and the program. He has demonstrated leadership both on and off the field, including giving 100% of his merchandise royalties back to the Sun Angel Collective to support his teammates.
His choice to remain at Arizona State, turning down a significant financial offer, highlights the evolving dynamics of college athletics, where players weigh both financial incentives and personal aspirations in their decisions.
