Another Report Connects the Bears as a Possible Khalil Mack Suitor

As the 2025 NFL offseason draws closer, the Chicago Bears are reportedly considering a reunion with former star pass rusher Khalil Mack. According to a recent report, the Bears are one of several teams looking at the possibility of bringing Mack back to Chicago, where he spent four highly productive seasons before being traded to the Los Angeles Chargers in 2022.

Mack, who is entering the final years of his career, has continued to show he can be a game-changing presence on defense. Despite being traded away, his legacy in Chicago still resonates with Bears fans, who remember his dominant performances from his first seasons with the team. In Chicago, Mack was instrumental in revitalizing a once-ailing defense, earning multiple Pro Bowl selections and All-Pro honors during his tenure. His relentless pass-rushing ability and leadership on the field were key factors in the Bears’ 2018 playoff appearance, where the defense was one of the league’s most feared units.

The Bears, who are still in the midst of rebuilding under head coach Matt Eberflus, have made significant strides in their defensive unit but lack a true elite pass rusher to complement their young defense. The addition of a veteran like Mack could help solidify the pass rush and provide a boost in both leadership and production. While Mack’s prime years may be behind him, he is still capable of contributing at a high level, as shown by his performance in Los Angeles, where he tallied 8.5 sacks and consistently pressured opposing quarterbacks.

For the Bears, bringing Mack back would not only address a need for a veteran pass rusher but also add a player with significant leadership experience, which could help develop their younger defenders. Mack has a history of mentoring younger players, and his presence in the locker room would undoubtedly be beneficial for the Bears’ defensive growth.

Financially, the Bears may have the resources to make this move, especially given their cap flexibility in 2025. The Bears could pursue Mack on a short-term deal, which would provide them with a low-risk, high-reward signing, especially considering the level of experience and skill Mack still brings to the table.

While the idea of bringing Mack back to Chicago may raise some eyebrows, it makes sense for a Bears team still in search of defensive playmakers. His return could help accelerate the defense’s development and add a veteran presence to an emerging group. As the offseason progresses, it will be interesting to see if the Bears make a serious push to re-sign their former star linebacker.
