In Kalen DeBoer’s inaugural year as head coach, the Alabama Crimson Tide wrapped up the 2024 season with a 9-4 record. Despite expectations for quarterback Jalen Milroe to shine in his final season, his performance was inconsistent. While he had standout moments, such as dismantling the Georgia defense, there were also games where he struggled, like the Oklahoma match where he threw three interceptions. Milroe is now heading to the NFL, leaving DeBoer with the task of finding his replacement.
For the 2025 season, DeBoer’s options include Milroe’s backup, Ty Simpson, and highly-touted freshman Keelon Russell. However, DeBoer is also looking to strengthen the quarterback position for future seasons. Recently, Alabama extended an offer to Colton Nussmeier, a top 2027 quarterback prospect and the younger brother of Garrett Nussmeier.
Colton Nussmeier, ranked No. 14 overall and No. 3 quarterback in the 2027 class by 247Sports, hails from Flower Mound, Texas. He has garnered around 20 offers from prestigious programs including Arkansas, Georgia, Michigan, and LSU. In his recent season, Nussmeier threw for over 1,900 yards, with 16 touchdowns and just three interceptions. Although signing day for the 2027 class is still far off, Alabama already has two commitments and adding a talented quarterback like Nussmeier could provide a solid foundation for their future recruiting class.
