In a historic moment for Alabama basketball, senior guard Mark Sears has been named a First Team All-American by the Associated Press for the 2024–25 season. This prestigious honor makes Sears only the second player in the program’s history to receive such recognition, following Brandon Miller’s selection in 2023.
Sears, a native of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, has been instrumental in the Crimson Tide’s success this season. He averaged 18.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game, showcasing his versatility and leadership on the court. His consistent performance has not only earned him individual accolades but has also propelled Alabama to a strong position in the NCAA tournament.
Joining Sears on the AP All-America First Team are Cooper Flagg of Duke, Johni Broome of Auburn, Braden Smith of Purdue, and Walter Clayton Jr. of Florida. Flagg and Broome were unanimous selections, highlighting the competitive landscape of college basketball this season.
Sears’ journey to this achievement is a testament to his dedication and resilience. After starting his collegiate career at Ohio University, where he earned First Team All-MAC honors, he transferred to Alabama in 2022. Since joining the Crimson Tide, Sears has been a pivotal player, earning Second Team All-SEC honors in his first season and elevating his game further to achieve First Team All-American status this year.
This milestone not only cements Sears’ legacy at Alabama but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring athletes, demonstrating that hard work and perseverance can lead to national recognition.
