Ryan Williams, a 17-year-old freshman wide receiver for the Alabama Crimson Tide, has made a significant impact in his inaugural college football season. Despite his youth, Williams led Alabama’s receiving corps, amassing 865 yards and eight touchdowns on 48 receptions. He also contributed on the ground, adding two rushing touchdowns and 48 rushing yards, underscoring his versatility as an offensive threat.
Williams’ exceptional performance did not go unnoticed. He was named to the Football Writers Association of America Freshman All-American team, highlighting his status as one of the nation’s top young talents. Additionally, he was a finalist for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award, an honor previously bestowed upon notable players such as Trevor Lawrence and Caleb Downs.
A testament to his maturity and skill, former Alabama coach Nick Saban drew parallels between Williams and former star wide receiver Amari Cooper, stating, “I think this guy reminds me of Amari Cooper as a freshman, and I think this guy has a great career.”
Beyond his on-field achievements, Williams co-hosts the “New Wave Show” podcast with freshman defensive back Jaylen Mbakwe. Launched in September 2024, the podcast quickly gained traction, becoming the No. 1 player-led podcast in college football with over 50,000 listeners across 12 episodes. The show features interviews with teammates and offers fans an insider’s perspective into Alabama football.
