Everton in competition for “Champions League level” talent; Thelwell must move quickly.

Everton are interested in acquiring an exciting young player with “Champions League level” ball skills, according to a new transfer report, but they are sliding behind the competition.

Everton transfer update

The Blues have a vital month ahead of them, not just in terms of moving out from the Premier League relegation zone, but also in terms of acquiring new players. Sean Dyche will undoubtedly be looking for reinforcements between now and the conclusion of the January transfer window, and a number of players have been mentioned as financially realistic options.

That includes Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill, with whom the Everton boss worked for a long time at Turf Moor, and a loan transfer has been discussed. Hannibal Mejbri, a Manchester United prodigy, has also emerged as a temporary alternative in the center of the field, as the Blues compete with Sevilla for his services.

Talleres winger Ramon Sosa has also been linked with a move to Goodison Park, indicating that the club is keen to add some youth to its ranks.

A recent update from Football Insider, Everton are interested in acquiring Blackburn Rovers teenager Adam Wharton, but Tottenham and Crystal Palace are also keen, and Kevin Thelwell will need to move quickly since the north London club is “stepping up” their interest.

Football Insider has learned that Tottenham are increasing their interest in Blackburn midfielder Adam Wharton. Spurs scouts have been seeing the 19-year-old play on a regular basis, while Everton and Crystal Palace are also interested in the highly regarded, top young prospect.

“A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Tottenham recruitment chiefs feel Wharton is a potential star in the making.”

Wharton appears to have immense potential, since he has already established himself as a crucial player for Blackburn, starting 20 Championship games this season. In that time, the 19-year-old has three assists and one goal, with an average of 2.3 tackles per game. Blackburn manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has also praised the young Englishman, saying of his gifted midfielder:

“Adam, on the ball, he has a Champions League level. I’ve been a Champions League player myself, I’ve coached in the Champions League so I know what you need.”

This says so much about the long-term potential that Wharton possesses, and if Everton could beat others to his signature this month, it would represent a hugely exciting piece of business.

The Blackburn ace is still maturing as a player, so it would be unfair to expect him to come straight in as a superstar for the Blues, but the quality he is already performing with at a good standard suggests he could become a fixture in Dyche’s team in a relatively short space of time.
