In a story that’s capturing hearts far beyond rugby league, Mitch Moses, the star playmaker of the Parramatta Eels, has made an extraordinary investment — putting $3.6 million of his own money into transforming a private residence into a shelter for homeless youth in Parramatta.
The initiative, which Moses personally designed with local charities and youth organizations, will provide safe housing, mentorship programs, and educational support for young people in need. The facility is expected to open its doors in early 2026.
Moses said his inspiration came from seeing homelessness rise in western Sydney and realizing the influence he could use for real change. “I’ve been blessed through rugby,” he stated, “but some kids in my own community are just trying to survive. I want to give them a place to start again.”
Fans and teammates have flooded social media with praise, calling the decision “one of the classiest moves in NRL history.” The Eels organization has also voiced full support, pledging to assist with ongoing community outreach linked to the project.
At a time when professional sports are often defined by contracts and fame, Mitch Moses has reminded everyone that the truest victories are those
that lift others.
