Morgantown, WV — In a heartwarming move that’s capturing headlines nationwide, West Virginia University football head coach Rich Rodriguez has donated a jaw-dropping $12.5 million to an orphanage home, marking one of the largest charitable contributions ever made by a college football coach.

Rodriguez, who returned to WVU in late 2024 to reignite the Mountaineers’ legacy, shocked reporters and fans alike during a press conference earlier this week. “This is bigger than football,” he said emotionally. “These kids deserve hope, love, and a real chance at life. If I can be a small part of that, then I’ve won something greater than any championship.”

The donation will fund a complete renovation of the Hope Haven Orphanage in Charleston, WV — including new housing facilities, educational resources, health services, and mental wellness programs. Rodriguez emphasized that the gift wasn’t just about money, but a call to action for others in leadership positions to give back to the community.

Fans and former players have flooded social media with praise, calling Rodriguez’s gesture “legendary,” “inspirational,” and “the true spirit of Mountaineer pride.” Some even suggest this moment could define his legacy more than his wins on the field.

As the 2025 football season approaches, one thing is clear: Rich Rodriguez is not only building a championship program — he’s building a better future for the next generation.
