Miami Heat Urged to Lock in All-Star Tyler Herro With Massive Extension
Tyler Herro’s rise in Miami has been impossible to ignore. After battling through injuries and criticism, the 25-year-old guard finally solidified his place among the NBA’s elite with a standout 2024–25 campaign that earned him his first All-Star selection. Now, as contract talks loom, NBA insiders believe Herro is poised to demand a massive extension—potentially upwards of $42 million annually.
Herro averaged an impressive 23.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.5 assists last season, shooting 47.2% from the field and 37.5% from three-point range. His efficiency, leadership, and clutch play were key factors in the Heat’s postseason push, and fans have taken notice.
Heat insider Greg Sylvander compared Herro’s upcoming negotiation to Mikal Bridges’ recent four-year, $150 million deal with the Knicks. Despite Bridges having zero All-Star nods (and perhaps none on the horizon), he’s valued highly for his defensive prowess. By contrast, Herro now boasts both All-Star credentials and consistent offensive production, making the case for a richer deal.
“With ‘never been an All-Star & probably won’t ever be an All-Star’ Mikal Bridges getting 4 years, $150 million,” Sylvander posted, “you can bet Tyler Herro, if he has back-to-back seasons at heightened efficiency, is going to ask for well north of that salary.”
The Heat front office now faces a critical decision: secure Herro long-term as a pillar of the franchise’s future—or risk losing a young star entering his prime.
Considering Miami’s emphasis on culture and continuity, locking in Herro may be the smartest play they can make. And if his upward trend continues, $42 million per year may soon look like a bargain.
