Double the Joy! North Carolina’s Hubert Davis & Wife Welcome Adorable Twins – UNC Fans Celebrate the Exciting News With Unbridled Enthusiasm
CHAPEL HILL, NC — July 19, 2025
In a heartwarming announcement that brought smiles from the Dean Dome to every corner of Tar Heel Nation, University of North Carolina men’s basketball head coach Hubert Davis and his wife Leslie Davis revealed that they have welcomed twin babies — a boy and a girl — into their family this week, drawing a wave of love, cheers, and celebration from fans, alumni, and the entire NCAA basketball community.
The twins, named Hudson Elijah Davis and Harper Leigh Davis, were born at UNC Medical Center early Monday morning. Both babies are healthy, and mom is recovering well, according to a family spokesperson.
> “We are overwhelmed with joy and gratitude,” Davis said in a short press release. “These two little blessings have already filled our home — and our hearts — with more love than we ever imagined.”
A Surprise for Tar Heel Nation
The announcement came as a surprise to many, as the couple had kept the pregnancy largely private. However, close family and a few within the Carolina basketball program were aware and had quietly supported them throughout the journey.
News broke just hours before Davis was scheduled to host a youth basketball camp on campus — but instead of drills and shooting tips, the morning session opened with a standing ovation after assistant coach Jeff Lebo shared the exciting family update with the young athletes.
> “Coach Davis always tells our guys to be leaders, fathers, and men of integrity,” Lebo said. “Today, he’s showing us all what that looks like.”
Carolina Blue Turns Baby Blue
The UNC community responded in true Tar Heel fashion — with spirit and unity. Students gathered outside the Dean Smith Center wearing “#GoHudson” and “#HelloHarper” pins. The UNC Marching Tar Heels even surprised fans downtown with a spontaneous baby-themed pep rally, featuring a playful brass rendition of “Rock-a-Bye Baby” that ended in chants of “Tar Heels for Life!”
Even UNC basketball alumni chimed in with congratulatory posts, including:
Ty Lawson: “Coach always delivered dubs. Now two at once? Legend!”
Coby White: “Uncle Coby reporting for babysitting duty.”
Harrison Barnes: “Blessings to Coach and the Davis family. Double the joy!”
Balancing Basketball and Bottles
Coach Davis, who led UNC to the Final Four in 2022 and remains one of the most respected figures in college hoops, has often emphasized the importance of faith, family, and leadership — values that will now take on new meaning as he embraces life with newborn twins at home.
Though the 2025–26 season looms large, Davis confirmed he will take a brief paternity leave in August to focus on family before returning full-time for preseason preparations.
> “The court will always be there,” Davis told a local reporter. “But right now, my job is swaddling, soothing, and learning how to tell twin cries apart.”
From hardwood to heartstrings, the Davis family is reminding us all that there’s more to life than wins and banners — it’s about the little victories, the moments that matter, and the joy of new beginnings.
