Eighteen students from West Virginia University (WVU) have been selected to receive the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, a significant recognition that will help fund their upcoming study abroad experiences. This accomplishment marks a growing trend among WVU students seeking global education opportunities while representing their state and university on the international stage.
The Gilman Scholarship, administered by the U.S. Department of State, is awarded to undergraduate students receiving Pell Grants who plan to participate in study or internship programs abroad. It is designed to support students who might otherwise not have the financial means to pursue international learning. The goal is to increase diversity in study abroad programs and to prepare students for careers in an increasingly globalized world.
This year’s group of WVU recipients reflects a diverse range of academic disciplines and destinations.
