Flagg and Knueppel were the driving force behind Duke’s 35-win season as freshmen, leading the Blue Devils to the Final Four, along with ACC regular season and tournament titles.
Knueppel is set to make his NBA Summer League debut on July 11, when the Charlotte Hornets face the Utah Jazz in Las Vegas.
Flagg will debut a day earlier on July 10 in a highly anticipated matchup between the Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Lakers — a game made even more intriguing by the blockbuster trade that sent Luka Doncic to L.A. in exchange for Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and draft compensation. On draft night, Cooper Flagg had just wrapped up his interview following his selection when he was standing near the stage and heard his Duke teammate and former roommate, Kon Knueppel, have his name called.Flagg’s reaction was instant and heartfelt.
“K Dot!! Let’s go! Oh my God! Let’s go!” Flagg shouted with joy. “It’s surreal. Kon was my roommate last year, so just to see him have that moment with his family — it’s insane. However, it remains unclear how much the Mavericks plan to play Flagg throughout Summer League action.
