Lakers Ink RJ Davis to Two-Way Contract Following 2025 NBA Draft
The Los Angeles Lakers have signed former North Carolina standout RJ Davis to a two-way contract following the conclusion of the 2025 NBA Draft. Despite going undrafted, Davis quickly caught the attention of the Lakers’ front office with his impressive collegiate résumé and leadership on the court.
Davis, a 6-foot guard, had a stellar senior season at UNC, earning All-American honors and averaging over 21 points per game. Known for his scoring versatility, clutch shooting, and high basketball IQ, Davis played a vital role in leading the Tar Heels to deep NCAA tournament runs. His ability to create shots, both for himself and teammates, made him one of the most dynamic guards in college basketball during the 2024–25 season.
While his size and athleticism may have contributed to him being overlooked on draft night, the Lakers are banking on his skills translating well at the professional level. The two-way contract allows Davis to split time between the Lakers and their G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers. This setup provides a valuable opportunity for development while keeping him in the mix for NBA minutes if needed.
Lakers GM Rob Pelinka expressed excitement over the signing, calling Davis “a polished guard with a competitive edge and strong work ethic.” With the Lakers focused on adding depth and youthful energy to complement their veteran core, Davis could emerge as a surprise contributor during the season.
For Davis, this deal represents both a second chance and a chance to prove doubters wrong. If he can make the most of his G League reps and continue to grow, RJ Davis may find himself earning a standard NBA contract—and a permanent place in the Lakers’
rotation.
