Notre Dame Reclaims Nation’s No. 2 Recruiting Class with Commitment from Elite Tight End Ian Premer
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish continue to assert their dominance on the recruiting trail. On Wednesday, they climbed back to No. 2 in the national 2025 recruiting class rankings after landing a commitment from one of the top tight ends in the country: Ian Premer.
Premer, a four-star prospect out of Nebraska, is widely regarded as one of the most complete tight ends in his class. Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing in at 215 pounds, the Omaha native brings an ideal blend of size, athleticism, and route-running precision to the Irish offense. His decision to commit to Notre Dame gives head coach Marcus Freeman another marquee name in what has become one of the most well-rounded and dangerous classes in the country.
With Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio State all jockeying for position at the top of the 2025 recruiting leaderboard, Notre Dame’s return to the No. 2 spot is a powerful statement about the program’s momentum under Freeman. The Fighting Irish now have over 20 commitments in the cycle, including several top-100 players and blue-chip prospects on both sides of the ball.
Premer’s commitment represents more than just another addition to the class — it’s another validation of Notre Dame’s reputation as “Tight End U.” The program has produced a steady pipeline of NFL-caliber tight ends in recent years, including Kyle Rudolph, Tyler Eifert, Cole Kmet, and Michael Mayer. Premer now appears to be next in line, with scouts praising his hands, catch radius, and ability to separate down the field. Many recruiting analysts project him as a future red-zone threat and potential Day 2 NFL Draft pick.
“Ian Premer fits exactly what we want in our offense,” said one Notre Dame assistant anonymously. “He’s big, physical, and he runs like a wide receiver. He’s a perfect modern tight end who can stretch the field or line up in-line and block when we need him to.”
Premer chose Notre Dame over offers from Nebraska, Penn State, Missouri, and Miami, among others. His recruitment accelerated after a standout junior season in which he tallied over 600 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns while leading his team to a state semifinal appearance.
Off the field, Premer is known for his discipline and strong academic focus — traits that align with Notre Dame’s student-athlete culture. He plans to major in business and has praised the university’s commitment to both athletics and academics as key factors in his decision.
With Premer now in the fold, Marcus Freeman’s 2025 class features high-end talent at virtually every position group. The Irish continue to build on a recruiting blueprint rooted in culture, player development, and early playing opportunity — a formula that has quickly made them one of college football’s most attractive destinations.
As the summer recruiting cycle heats up, Notre Dame’s recruiting staff is far from finished. But with Ian Premer’s commitment, the Irish have already sent a clear message: South Bend is home to one of the nation’s elite programs, and they’re coming for the top spot.
