FUTURE FOCUSED: Shawn Olmstead Announces Four Standouts to Join BYU Men’s Volleyball 2026 Roster
PROVO, Utah – BYU men’s volleyball head coach Shawn Olmstead continues to shape a championship-caliber future for the Cougars, officially announcing the addition of four promising athletes to his 2026 recruiting class. Trent Moser, Connor Oldoni, Max Phillipe, and Kyle Zediker have all committed to the Cougars, bringing a blend of elite athleticism, positional versatility, and competitive edge to a program that remains a national powerhouse.
“This class is built around talent, character, and a deep passion for the game,” Olmstead said. “Each of these young men brings something unique to the table, and we believe they’ll thrive in our culture and elevate the future of BYU Volleyball.”
Trent Moser | OH | 6’6” | Mountain View High School (AZ)
Trent Moser is the headliner of the 2026 class. The dynamic 6-foot-6 outside hitter from Arizona has long been on the national radar thanks to his devastating swing, explosive vertical, and on-court awareness. Moser played club volleyball with AZ Fear and led his high school to a state title, earning All-American honors in the process.
“Trent is a game-changer,” said Olmstead. “He has all the tools—length, power, vision—and he knows how to score. He’s one of the most electric players in this class, and we expect big things from him.”
Connor Oldoni | L/DS | 6’0” | Loyola High School (CA)
Coming from one of the most respected high school programs in the country, Connor Oldoni brings grit and consistency to the backcourt. A natural libero/defensive specialist, Oldoni has a reputation for his relentless pursuit of the ball and his leadership on the court. He’s expected to provide crucial defensive depth early in his BYU career.
“Connor is one of the toughest defenders we’ve seen,” Olmstead noted. “He’s steady, vocal, and his instincts in the back row are outstanding. He’ll be a big asset to our serve-receive and transition defense.”
Max Phillipe | MB | 6’7” | Mira Costa High School (CA)
Another California standout, Max Phillipe is a dominant middle blocker known for his quick jump and fast arm. He played a key role for Mira Costa’s high-octane offense and has developed into a strong net presence on both sides of the ball.
“Max has a great volleyball IQ and is just scratching the surface of his potential,” Olmstead said. “He reads the game well and makes quick decisions—exactly what we look for in a BYU middle.”
Kyle Zediker | S | 6’5” | Wheaton Warrenville South (IL)
Rounding out the group is Kyle Zediker, a versatile and athletic setter from Illinois. At 6-foot-5, Zediker brings excellent size to the position along with precise hands and strong court leadership. He’s led multiple deep playoff runs and has trained with some of the top club teams in the Midwest.
“Kyle is a natural leader with great touch and tempo,” Olmstead said. “He brings poise and confidence to every match. His ceiling is very high, and we’re excited to develop his game even further.”
Eyes on the Future
With the additions of Moser, Oldoni, Phillipe, and Zediker, the Cougars are not just reinforcing their roster—they’re planting the seeds for long-term success. Each member of the 2026 class brings a blend of skill and passion that fits seamlessly into BYU’s storied volleyball tradition.
“We’re excited for what’s ahead,” Olmstead concluded. “This group has what it takes to carry BYU Volleyball forward, and we can’t wait to get to work with them.”
