The NJCAA named Tennessee baseball commit Tyler Myatt its player of the year Monday. Myatt earned national JUCO player of the year honors after a phenomenal season where he helped lead Walter State to the national championship series
The utility man put up insane numbers in his redshirt freshman season at Walters State. In 66 games, Myatt hit .484 with 31 home runs and 110 RBIs. The left-handed hitter broke the Senators’ single-season home run and RBI records. Myatt was a driving force on Walters State’s run to the JUCO World Series finals game.Myatt is a Tazewell, Tennessee native and committed to play for the home state Vols over both LSU and Texas A&M.
“I knew what I wanted. All of them (LSU and Texas A&M) came kind of the same week and then Tennessee comes two weeks later and I knew, I was locked on for a year or three years or however long I’m there,” Myatt told RTI at the time of his commitment.Perfect Game ranks Myatt as the No. 14 junior college prospect in the country during the 2025-26 season. Myatt hit home runs off of an Alabama and Arkansas signee during the world series.The 5-foot-11 prospect does not have a definitive position. He was the designated hitter for Walters State last season while also playing some second base. Myatt also has the ability to play the corner outfield spots.
Myatt is draft eligible and could potentially opt to start his professional career instead of coming to Tennessee for his third college season. If Myatt does make it to campus then he’ll be a part of a largely new Volunteer roster and will compete for a number of open starting spots.The East Tennessee native’s ability to improve as a defender and find a permanent position or multiple positions where he’s solid defensively will be significant in his push for playing time.
“It’s going to be exciting,” Myatt said. “No matter what, it’s going to be exciting. Just hold your breathe and wait on me to get there.”
