In a season defined by brilliance, resilience, and breakout stardom, Silas Demary Jr., the dynamic sophomore guard for the Georgia Bulldogs, has etched his name into college basketball history. The 6’4” floor general from Raleigh, North Carolina has officially been awarded the 2025 Bob Cousy Award, honoring the nation’s top point guard—and in a rare double triumph, he also captured the 2025 Midseason Wooden Award, solidifying his place among the elite contenders for National Player of the Year.
The announcement sent shockwaves across the SEC and beyond, as Demary becomes the first player in Georgia program history to earn either honor, let alone both in the same season. His play has been nothing short of transcendent.
Through 26 games, Demary Jr. has averaged 18.9 points, 7.3 assists, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.2 steals per game, while shooting an efficient 48.5% from the field and 39.2% from three-point range. His impact goes far beyond the box score—he’s been the emotional heartbeat, tactical commander, and clutch closer for a Bulldogs squad that has soared to a 21–5 record and climbed to No. 12 in the national rankings.
> “Silas has been the most complete guard in the country this year,” said Georgia head coach Mike White. “He leads, he defends, he scores, and he makes everyone around him better. These awards are a testament to his work ethic, maturity, and unselfish spirit.”
The Bob Cousy Award, presented annually by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, is reserved for the nation’s top collegiate point guard. Demary beat out finalists from Kansas, Baylor, UConn, and Duke, all of whom had impressive seasons. But voters praised Demary’s ability to blend scoring with surgical playmaking, often controlling tempo and dictating outcomes in crunch time.
In addition to the Cousy Award, Demary’s Midseason Wooden Award win sets the stage for a potential sweep at season’s end. The Wooden honor, awarded to the most outstanding player in college basketball, has historically foreshadowed NBA stardom. Recent recipients include Brandon Miller, Cade Cunningham, and Luka Garza. Demary Jr. could soon join their ranks.
> “He’s got everything NBA scouts want—size, poise, instincts, toughness,” said ESPN draft analyst Jonathan Givony. “And he’s a leader. That’s why he’s suddenly in the Top 10 of most 2025 draft boards.”
Demary’s rise is all the more inspiring
