2026 Carthage running back KJ Edwards commits to Texas A&M
Mike Elko and the Aggies have had some success attracting the attention of big-time playmakers out of East Texas, and they add one of the biggest in the Lone Star State as Carthage standout running back KJ Edwards announced his commitment to Texas A&M.At 5-foot-10 and 188 pounds, Edwards is a home run threat whenever he touches the ball. He is shifty and quick, with the vision to see the crease and the explosion to hit top speed and blow past a defense. Then there is his ability as a receiver out of the backfield. He quickly locates the ball, and he is a dynamic threat in the open field.
Texas A&M running backs coach Trooper Taylor has led the Aggies’ recruiting efforts, and Taylor, along with Elko, has already forged a strong bond with Edwards.
He becomes Texas A&M’s 17th commitment in the 2026 class, and he joins running back Jonathan Hatton Jr as running backs in the class.
Ranked No. 14 in the TexAgs 2026 Texas Top 100, Edwards is established as one of the top running backs in the country with offers from coast to coast. In the end, he chose the Aggies over LSU, Alabama, and Texas.
Edwards burst on the scene as a freshman in 2022, rushing for 535 yards and seven touchdowns on 47 carries. He posted 1,706 yards and 18 touchdowns on 169 carries as a sophomore in 2023, and he recorded 1,789 yards and 23 scores on 142 carries as a junior in 2024. He is a two-time state champion, and he capped his junior season with an Offensive MVP effort in the 4A Division II State championship game. He also posted 48 receptions for 553 yards and three scores in his career at Carthage.
