BYU Football Commit McKay Madsen Makes History with Unprecedented Track & Field Feat
McKay Madsen, a four-star athlete and BYU football signee, has etched his name into California high school sports history by achieving a remarkable double victory in track and field. Madsen secured back-to-back state championships in both the shot put and discus events—a feat not accomplished in over a century.
At the CIF state track and field meet, Madsen delivered a shot put throw of 69 feet, 11 inches, narrowly missing the 70-foot mark and setting a new state record. In the discus, he achieved a throw of 210 feet, 8 inches, finishing just three feet shy of the state meet record and surpassing the runner-up by more than 24 feet.
Madsen’s athletic prowess extends beyond track and field. During his senior year at Clovis North High School, he rushed for 1,238 yards and 19 touchdowns as a running back, while also recording 49 tackles and four interceptions on defense. His versatility has led to discussions about his potential roles at BYU, with possibilities at both running back and linebacker.
In a statement reflecting his dedication, Madsen said, “Since I woke up last year after winning state, there hasn’t been a single day where I haven’t thought about it again. It’s like literally an obsession.”
