Report: Miami Heat Exploring Trade Options for Duncan Robinson, per Evan Sidery
The Miami Heat are reportedly shopping sharpshooter Duncan Robinson ahead of what could be a pivotal offseason for the franchise. According to NBA insider Evan Sidery, the Heat are “actively looking to move” Robinson as part of potential trade packages aimed at reshaping the roster around Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo.
Robinson, 30, has been a valuable role player for Miami since bursting onto the scene during the 2019–20 season, when his elite three-point shooting helped fuel the Heat’s unexpected run to the NBA Finals. However, his role has fluctuated over the past few seasons due to defensive limitations and the emergence of younger, more versatile wings such as Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Nikola Jović.
In 2023–24, Robinson averaged 12.9 points and shot 39.5% from beyond the arc in 55 games, regaining some of the form that made him one of the NBA’s premier marksmen. His improved off-ball movement and secondary playmaking gave Miami needed offensive juice during stretches of injury-riddled lineups. Still, with a $19.4 million salary for 2024–25 and a non-guaranteed $19.9 million for 2025–26, the Heat may see an opportunity to reallocate resources toward a more complete two-way player or a younger asset.
Robinson’s contract, once seen as a burden, now looks much more manageable given the rising salary cap and the scarcity of reliable shooting in today’s NBA. That makes him a tradeable piece—especially for contenders or young teams in need of floor spacing.
The Heat, meanwhile, are expected to be aggressive this summer. With questions swirling about Jimmy Butler’s future and Miami’s early playoff exit still fresh, Pat Riley and the front office appear poised to retool rather than rebuild. Packaging Robinson in a larger deal could help Miami land another star-caliber player or high-upside young talent.
Teams reportedly interested in acquiring a shooter of Robinson’s caliber include the Sacramento Kings, Philadelphia 76ers, and Oklahoma City Thunder, all of whom have the cap flexibility and assets to make a deal work.
While nothing is imminent, the writing may be on the wall: the Heat are looking to evolve, and Duncan Robinson—one of the great undrafted success stories in franchise history—might be the first domino to fall.
