Utah Native and Former BYU Forward Rose Bubakar Transfers to Utah Valley for Expanded Role
In a move that keeps her close to home while offering new opportunities, former BYU forward Rose Bubakar has officially transferred to Utah Valley University. The Provo-based athlete is set to join the Wolverines for the upcoming season, bringing with her athleticism, versatility, and a strong defensive presence.
Bubakar spent three seasons with the BYU Cougars, where she was known for her relentless hustle, rebounding ability, and physical style of play. During the 2023โ24 season, she averaged 4.8 points and 3.7 rebounds per game while appearing in 28 contests, often coming off the bench as a key defensive contributor. Despite limited minutes, Bubakar earned praise from coaches and teammates for her work ethic and team-first mentality.
Her decision to transfer to Utah Valley was driven by a desire for a larger role and increased playing time. With a new coaching staff taking over the Wolverinesโ program, Bubakar saw an opportunity to make an immediate impact and expand her game. โThis move gives me a chance to grow as a player and help lead a new team,โ she said in a recent social media post. โIโm grateful for my time at BYU and ready for this next chapter.โ
Utah Valley head coach Dan Nielson expressed enthusiasm about Bubakarโs arrival, highlighting her toughness and leadership. โRose brings experience from a high-level program and will be an immediate asset to our team culture and competitiveness,โ he noted.
The move adds another layer to the growing transfer trend in womenโs college basketball, where players are seeking better fits and new challenges. For Bubakar, itโs a chance to play a bigger role and continue developing her all-around gameโwhile staying in the Utah Valley area sheโs called home.
