JUST IN: Notre Dame Lands 2026 Top Talent DL Target, He Worked For It All
SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Notre Dame football has secured a major piece of its 2026 recruiting class, landing elite defensive line prospect Elijah “EJ” Walker — a commitment that’s already turning heads nationally. The 6-foot-4, 265-pound force out of Georgia announced his decision Tuesday afternoon, choosing the Fighting Irish over Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio State.
Known for his relentless motor, raw power, and work ethic, Walker is ranked among the top defensive linemen in the 2026 class. His journey to this moment, however, hasn’t been easy. From long days in the weight room to dominating at camps and regional showcases, Walker has steadily built his name as one of the most feared defensive line prospects in the country.
“I’ve worked for everything — nothing was handed to me,” Walker said in a message posted to social media. “Notre Dame feels like home. The coaches believe in me, and I believe in the vision. I want to be part of something bigger than myself.”
Walker’s commitment is a major win for head coach Marcus Freeman and defensive line coach Al Washington, both of whom played key roles in building a strong relationship with Walker and his family. Notre Dame’s emphasis on character, development, and academics also resonated deeply with the standout lineman.
“Elijah brings exactly what we look for — toughness, integrity, and a hunger to get better,” Freeman said in a statement. “He’s a game-changer on the field and a leader off of it. We’re thrilled to welcome him to the Notre Dame family.”
Scouts praise Walker for his explosive first step, ability to shed blocks, and disruptive presence in the backfield. He recorded 14.5 sacks and 21 tackles for loss as a sophomore, dominating some of the top offensive lines in Georgia.
With his commitment, Notre Dame continues to build one of the most promising defensive units in the nation for 2026 — and they’re not done yet. But for now, the spotlight belongs to Elijah Walker, a young man who’s earned everything with sweat, grit, and belief.
Notre Dame just got stronger in the trenches — and so did its future.
