Texas A&M Football Earns Top-10 Spot in ESPN’s 2025 FPI Rankings
Texas A&M has secured the No. 8 position in ESPN’s 2025 College Football Power Index (FPI), signaling high expectations for the Aggies in the upcoming season. This ranking places them ahead of several prominent programs, including LSU, Michigan, and Oklahoma.
The FPI, a predictive metric developed by ESPN, assesses team strength and forecasts performance based on factors like returning talent, past results, and schedule difficulty. Texas A&M’s FPI rating of 17.9 reflects optimism about their potential under head coach Mike Elko, who is entering his second season with the team.
Despite an 8–5 finish in 2024, the Aggies demonstrated promise with notable victories over Missouri and LSU. However, they concluded the season with a narrow 35–31 loss to USC in the Las Vegas Bowl. The upcoming schedule presents significant challenges, including matchups against Notre Dame on September 13 and LSU on October 25.
While some analysts view the Aggies’ top-10 FPI ranking as ambitious, pointing to past inconsistencies, the team’s talent and resources suggest they could contend in the SEC and potentially vie for a College Football Playoff spot.
As the 2025 season approaches, Texas A&M’s performance will be closely watched to see if they can meet the high expectations set by their FPI ranking.
