Chase Roberts Set to Lead BYU’s Receiving Corps in Breakout 2025 Season
Chase Roberts, the standout junior wide receiver for BYU, is primed for a breakout season in 2025 as the Cougars look to rebound from a challenging first year in the Big 12 Conference. After leading the team in receiving yards in 2024, Roberts is now in position to become one of the top pass-catchers in the league.
Roberts finished last season with 854 receiving yards and six touchdowns, demonstrating crisp route-running, reliable hands, and the ability to make contested catches. With several veteran receivers having graduated or entered the transfer portal, Roberts becomes the clear go-to target in BYU’s passing attack.
At 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds, Roberts combines size with sneaky speed, making him a tough matchup for opposing defensive backs. He showed flashes of brilliance last year, including a 130-yard game against Texas Tech and a game-winning touchdown grab versus Cincinnati.
“I feel like I’m stepping into a leadership role now,” Roberts said during spring practices. “I’ve learned from some great players, and now it’s my turn to help carry this offense.”
The Cougars’ offense, led by offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick, is expected to lean more heavily on the passing game in 2025. With quarterback Jake Retzlaff returning and a rebuilt offensive line, Roberts could be in line for a 1,000-yard season — a feat rarely achieved in BYU history.
Coaches and teammates have praised Roberts for his work ethic, football IQ, and maturity. He’s also been mentoring younger receivers, further establishing himself as a cornerstone of the team’s culture.
If he stays healthy and continues his upward trajectory, Chase Roberts could emerge as a legitimate NFL prospect, and a major reason why BYU’s offense may surprise opponents in the Big 12 this season.
