Miami Heat Rookie Kel’el Ware
Miami Heat center Kel’el Ware has made an early mark in his NBA journey, earning a spot on the 2024–25 NBA All-Rookie Second Team. The announcement, made earlier this week, marks a major milestone for the young big man, who quietly emerged as one of the most consistent and promising rookies in his class.
Drafted late in the first round, Ware entered the league with modest expectations but quickly impressed both the Heat coaching staff and fans with his size, athleticism, and two-way potential. Standing 7 feet tall with a 7’4” wingspan, he brought much-needed rim protection and interior presence to a Miami squad seeking depth and youth in the frontcourt.
Ware’s rookie campaign saw him average 9.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game, while shooting over 53% from the field. He also flashed a soft shooting touch from midrange and occasional three-point range, giving the Heat flexibility in how they deployed him. His effort and willingness to learn quickly earned praise from head coach Erik Spoelstra, who gradually increased his role as the season progressed.
While Ware didn’t make the First Team, finishing sixth overall in rookie voting was no small feat, especially given the deep and talented 2024 rookie class. His impact was felt particularly during key stretches when Miami faced injuries in the frontcourt, stepping in as a reliable rebounder and shot-blocker.
For a franchise known for developing talent and exceeding expectations, Ware’s growth represents another successful step forward. With a full offseason to build strength and refine his offensive game, the Heat view Ware as a foundational piece moving forward. His All-Rookie recognition is just the beginning for a player many believe could anchor Miami’s defense for years to come.
