Josh Hubbard’s Bold Return: Mississippi State’s Star Guard Withdraws from NBA Draft to Lead Bulldogs Forward My Best Decision is Now

Mississippi State’s standout guard, Josh Hubbard, has officially withdrawn from the 2025 NBA Draft and will return to Starkville for his junior season. This decision, announced on May 21, 2025, comes after a record-breaking sophomore campaign and is poised to significantly bolster the Bulldogs’ prospects for the upcoming season .

A Historic Sophomore Season

Standing at 5-foot-11, Hubbard led the Bulldogs with an impressive 18.9 points per game, starting all 34 contests. His performance placed him among the SEC’s elite, ranking third in points per game, second in assists-to-turnover ratio (2.49), and second in three-pointers made per game (3.18). Additionally, he set a new school record with an 87.8% free throw percentage and became the first player in Mississippi State history to record at least 600 points and 100 assists in a single season .

Commitment to Growth and Leadership

Hubbard’s decision to return was driven by his dedication to the Bulldogs and his desire to continue developing under head coach Chris Jans. “I’m blessed to be a Mississippi State Bulldog,” Hubbard expressed. “I’m blessed to play for one of the best coaches in the country in Chris Jans. I’m blessed to have another opportunity to represent my home state on a national stage. It’s special” .

Navigating Roster Changes

The Bulldogs have experienced significant roster turnover this offseason, with key players like Kanye Clary (Oklahoma State), Michael Nwoko (LSU), and KeShawn Murphy (Auburn) transferring out. However, the team has also added experienced transfers such as Ja’Borri McGhee (UAB) and Jayden Epps (Georgetown) . Hubbard’s return provides a stabilizing presence and leadership as the team integrates these new additions.

Looking Ahead

With Hubbard back in the fold, Mississippi State aims to build upon last season’s NCAA Tournament appearance and ninth-place SEC finish (21-13 overall). His scoring prowess, playmaking ability, and experience will be crucial as the Bulldogs strive for greater success in the 2025-26 season. National analysts believe Hubbard’s return positions him as a legitimate contender for All-American honors, especially as he continues to develop under Coach Jans .

Hubbard’s return not only strengthens Mississippi State’s roster but also reinforces the program’s commitment to excellence and competitiveness in the SE
