Jaland Lowe Opts for Kentucky, Withdraws from NBA Draft
Lexington, KY – The Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball program received a significant boost today with the official announcement that transfer guard Jaland Lowe will be suiting up for the Big Blue Nation this upcoming season. Lowe, a highly sought-after talent, confirmed his commitment by withdrawing his name from the 2025 NBA Draft, solidifying his path to Lexington.
This decision comes after Lowe, who transferred to Kentucky from Pittsburgh, had been testing the NBA Draft waters. While he showcased his skills during the draft process, including a solid performance at the G League Elite Camp, he ultimately decided that another year of collegiate development, particularly under new head coach Mark Pope, would best prepare him for a future professional career.
“Can’t miss out on this opportunity. See y’all soon BBN,” Lowe posted on social media, signaling his excitement to join the storied Kentucky program. His father, Marland Lowe, had previously indicated his son’s strong intention to be at Kentucky, and today’s announcement makes it official.
Lowe brings an impressive resume to Kentucky. As a sophomore at Pittsburgh, the 6-foot-3 guard averaged 16.8 points, 5.5 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game, earning Third-Team All-ACC honors. He demonstrated his playmaking ability throughout the season, including a notable triple-double performance.
Head coach Mark Pope has expressed immense enthusiasm for Lowe’s arrival, envisioning him as a key piece in the Wildcats’ offense. Pope highlighted Lowe’s explosive athleticism and ability to create, noting that the change of scenery and offensive system at Kentucky will allow Lowe to play more efficiently and potentially lead the SEC in assists.
“I’m excited to get him here and hyper-speed his game,” Pope stated. “We’re going to really unleash him and push him to play with as much pace as he possibly can… He’s going to be surprised, and he knows it, by having a chance to actually get an open catch-and-shoot once in a while.”
Lowe’s withdrawal from the draft and commitment to Kentucky signals a clear intention to refine his game and elevate his draft stock for 2026. With two years of eligibility remaining, he is poised to be a significant contributor to the new era of Kentucky basketball.
