Former Texas A&M QB turned Vanderbilt tight end is one of the country’s top playmakers…

Eli Stowers’ journey from a four-star quarterback at Texas A&M to one of college football’s most dynamic tight ends at Vanderbilt is a testament to resilience, adaptability, and faith. Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 235 pounds, Stowers has become a formidable presence on the field, blending athleticism with a deep understanding of the game.

A Unique Path to Stardom

Stowers began his collegiate career at Texas A&M, where he played five games as a reserve quarterback. In 2023, he transferred to New Mexico State, initially continuing as a quarterback. However, recognizing the team’s needs and his own potential, he transitioned to tight end. In his first season at New Mexico State, he showcased versatility, recording 35 receptions for 366 yards and two touchdowns, along with 29 rushes for 113 yards and two scores on the ground. He also completed four passes for 99 yards and a touchdown.

In 2024, Stowers transferred to Vanderbilt, where he fully embraced his new position. He quickly became a cornerstone of the Commodores’ offense, leading the team with 49 receptions for 638 yards and five touchdowns. His performance included three 100-yard games, notably a 113-yard outing against Alabama. This remarkable achievement made him the first Vanderbilt tight end since at least 1996 to record multiple 100-yard receiving games in a season.

National Recognition

Stowers’ exceptional season did not go unnoticed. He was named a First-Team All-SEC selection and was a semifinalist for the prestigious John Mackey Award, which honors the nation’s top tight end. Additionally, he was added to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List, recognizing the top receiver in college football.

A Decision to Return

Despite garnering NFL interest, Stowers chose to return to Vanderbilt for the 2025 season. He expressed a desire to further develop both personally and athletically, aiming to be “the best version of myself” and to contribute to changing the culture and reputation of the program.

Looking Ahead

As Stowers prepares for his final collegiate season, expectations are high. His unique background, combining quarterback instincts with tight end skills, positions him as one of the most intriguing prospects in college football. With his leadership, versatility, and determination, Eli Stowers is poised to leave a lasting impact on Vanderbilt’s football program and the college football landscape.
