PG Sensation Divine Ugochukwu Joins Michigan State — Spartans Land a Game-Changing Transfer Ready to Bring Championships Back to East Lansing!

Michigan State University has secured a significant addition to its men’s basketball roster with the commitment of sophomore point guard Divine Ugochukwu, transferring from the University of Miami. Ugochukwu announced his decision on Sunday, May 18, 2025, choosing the Spartans over other notable programs like Texas Tech and USC .

Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 190 pounds, Ugochukwu hails from Sugar Land, Texas. During his freshman year at Miami, he averaged 5.3 points, 2.3 assists, and 1.9 rebounds per game, participating in over 20 minutes per contest and starting in 16 of 28 games . His performance showcased his potential as a reliable backup guard.

At Michigan State, Ugochukwu is anticipated to provide depth in the backcourt, likely serving as a backup to returning starting point guard Jeremy Fears Jr. His experience and versatility could also see him competing for minutes at the two-guard position, adding flexibility to the Spartans’ lineup .

This transfer marks the third addition for Michigan State this offseason, joining former Samford guard Trey Fort and former Florida Atlantic wing Kaleb Glenn. With these acquisitions, head coach Tom Izzo aims to bolster the team’s depth and maintain its competitive edge following a season that concluded with a 30–7 record and an Elite Eight appearance in the NCAA tournament .

Ugochukwu’s commitment is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the Spartans’ guard rotation, ensuring sustained performance and resilience in the upcoming season.
