On May 21, 2025, the Florida Gators men’s basketball team was honored at the White House for their remarkable 2025 NCAA national championship victory. In a gripping final, the Gators overcame a 12-point deficit to defeat Houston 65–63, clinching their third NCAA title.
A Triumphant Return to the White House
This marks the Gators’ third visit to the White House, having previously been honored in 2006 and 2007 following their back-to-back championships. The ceremony took place in the East Room, where President Donald Trump commended the team’s resilience, noting that “lesser teams would have crumbled” under the pressure of the championship game.
Celebrating the Champions
During the event, the Gators presented President Trump with a signed basketball and a personalized No. 47 jersey. Head coach Todd Golden was lauded for his leadership, with President Trump praising him as “great” and humorously expressing a desire to be his agent.
A Historic Achievement
The Gators’ victory not only secured their third national title but also distinguished them as the only school with three NCAA championships in both basketball and football. The team’s journey to the championship included four come-from-behind wins during the six-game March Madness tournament, showcasing their determination and skill.
The White House visit serves as a testament to the Gators’ outstanding season and their place in college basketball history.
