This season, Elliot Cadeau was a true delight to watch. Reclassified in 2024, the recruit brought a tinge of drama to Chapel Hill (Simeon Wilcher, a 2023 signee, ended up decommitting soon after Cadeau announced he was heading to UNC early), but Hubert Davis also gained an intriguing addition to his offense.
Though Carolina has a legitimate claim to be known as “Point Guard U,” the team hasn’t had a truly exceptional passer since Kendall Marshall in 2012. Although they could all pass, Marcus Paige, Joel Berry, Coby White, Cole Anthony, Caleb Love, and RJ Davis were more of pure scorers than guards.
Cadeau reminded me of that old-fashioned K-Butter point guard. Check out some of his best songs, giving theCadeau was an expert at changing the tempo and pace. He can start breaks quickly, slow down play and seek for pin-point passes in the half court set, or set defenses up by switching up fastball and change-up drives at the rim. He is such a clever driver. Additionally, if you hold down the “A” button, he has the inexplicable ability to hang in midair like in Super Mario Brothers:
Although Cadeau’s numbers don’t look impressive (he averaged 7.3 points, 4.1 assists, and had shooting splits of 41.7 FG%, 18.9 3P%, and 64.8 FT%), they did become better as the season went on, especially from the free throw line. At the start of the season, Cadeau was also a total liability on defense due to his alarming amount of fouls. And while he won’t be mistaken for the great Gary Payton anytime soon, his hustle and enthusiasm allowed him to significantly improve and give the squad a boost:
