BYU sophomore guard Amari Whiting has made a significant move by transferring to Oklahoma State, a decision that has surprised many in the college basketball community. This announcement came shortly after BYU and her mother, head coach Amber Whiting, agreed to part ways following the 2024–25 season.
Amari, who started all 63 games during her two seasons at BYU, averaged 10.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. Her departure is particularly notable as she originally committed to Oregon before switching to BYU to play under her mother’s leadership.
The transfer to Oklahoma State places Amari within the same conference, the Big 12, setting up potential matchups against her former team. Her decision underscores the dynamic nature of collegiate athletics and the personal considerations athletes weigh when making such transitions.
