HE’S BACK: The Minnesota Vikings Shockingly Sign Former University of Minnesota Quarterback Max Brosmer as an Undrafted Free Agent Following the 2025 NFL Draft.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – In a move that’s sending ripples of excitement and surprise through the local football community, the Minnesota Vikings have signed former University of Minnesota Golden Gophers quarterback Max Brosmer as an undrafted free agent (UDFA) following the conclusion of the 2025 NFL Draft. This homecoming for the signal-caller, who spent his final collegiate season with the Gophers, was a shock to many but represents a calculated gamble by the Vikings’ front office.

Brosmer, who transferred to Minnesota after a successful career at New Hampshire, quickly became a fan favorite in his single season donning the maroon and gold. While his college statistics (2,828 yards passing, 18 touchdowns, 6 interceptions, and a 66.5% completion rate in 2024) were productive, his age (24) and perceived lack of elite physical tools led to him falling out of the draft. However, the Vikings, who hosted Brosmer for a local visit during the pre-draft process, clearly saw something more.

Head Coach Kevin O’Connell has reportedly been impressed by Brosmer’s “high football I.Q.” and “pretty efficient throwing” mechanics. It’s a testament to Brosmer’s quick processing and ability to adapt that he’s already making corrections in practice after just a couple of hours in meetings. The Vikings’ willingness to invest a significant guaranteed sum – reportedly $250,000 – into Brosmer’s UDFA deal further underlines their belief in his potential. This isn’t just a camp arm; it’s a genuine opportunity.

For Vikings fans, particularly those who follow the Gophers, the signing is a feel-good story. It’s a chance to see a local collegiate standout get his shot at the NFL level, staying in the state he grew to call home. While the Vikings’ quarterback room is now notably crowded with first-round pick J.J. McCarthy, new acquisition Sam Howell, and veteran Brett Rypien, Brosmer’s intelligence and quick release could carve out a path for him, potentially vying for a practice squad spot or even the QB3 role. This unexpected signing offers a fascinating storyline to follow as the Vikings head into offseason workouts.
