BATON ROUGE, LA — In a historic decision that has set the basketball world buzzing, ESPN has officially named LSU Tigers legend Pete “Pistol” Maravich as the Greatest of All Time in Men’s College Basketball. The announcement comes after a rigorous evaluation of NCAA legends, with Maravich edging out a lineup of all-time greats including Austin Carr (Notre Dame), Christian Laettner (Duke), Dan Issel (Kentucky), and Jerry Lucas (Ohio State).

Maravich, whose electric playstyle and jaw-dropping stats redefined college basketball during his time at LSU from 1968 to 1970, remains the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer with 3,667 points in just three seasons — and that’s without the three-point line or shot clock.

“Pistol Pete wasn’t just a player — he was a phenomenon,” ESPN analysts noted. “His creativity, court vision, and scoring ability were decades ahead of his time. No one has ever matched what he did in college basketball history.”

Social media erupted with reactions from fans and former players alike, with many praising the decision and others reigniting the debate on who truly deserves the GOAT crown.

Stay tuned for more expert reactions, fan polls, and a deep dive into how Pete Maravich changed the game forever.
