Breaking: Ole Miss hires American football legend Deuce McAllister as new assistant general manager to boost program leadership.

Ole Miss Appoints Deuce McAllister as Assistant General Manager

In a significant move aimed at strengthening their football program both on and off the field, Ole Miss has officially appointed former NFL and college football standout Deuce McAllister as their new Assistant General Manager. This marks a homecoming for McAllister, who left a lasting legacy at the University of Mississippi during his playing days before going on to a successful professional career in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints.

McAllister, a native of Ludlow, Mississippi, played running back at Ole Miss from 1997 to 2000, where he became one of the most accomplished players in the program’s history. He set several school records during his college career, including career rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, and all-purpose yards. Following his time at Ole Miss, McAllister was selected in the first round of the 2001 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints, where he spent his entire eight-year professional career and became a fan favorite.

The appointment comes at a time when college football programs across the country are placing increasing importance on administrative and developmental roles to support their athletes amid the evolving landscape of college sports, including Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) policies and the transfer portal. By bringing in a figure like McAllister—who commands respect from players, alumni, and fans alike—Ole Miss is reinforcing its commitment to building a top-tier program.

As Assistant General Manager, McAllister is expected to play a key role in player development, recruitment strategy, alumni relations, and team culture. His understanding of what it takes to succeed at both the collegiate and professional levels positions him well to mentor current players and help them navigate the challenges and opportunities of modern college football.

Ole Miss Head Coach Lane Kiffin expressed excitement about McAllister’s addition to the program, noting his leadership qualities and deep understanding of the game. “Deuce embodies everything that makes Ole Miss special,” Kiffin said. “He’s been where our players are now, and where many hope to go. His insight and experience will be invaluable.”

Beyond football, McAllister has been active in philanthropy and community engagement. He runs the Catch 22 Foundation, which supports underprivileged youth in Mississippi and Louisiana. His involvement in the community and commitment to giving back align well with Ole Miss’s broader values and mission.

Fans and alumni have welcomed the move with enthusiasm, celebrating the return of a true Rebel legend. For McAllister, this new role represents an opportunity to give back to the program that launched his football career and to help shape the future of Ole Miss football.

“I’m honored to return to the place that gave me so much,” McAllister said in a statement. “I’m excited to work with our coaches, staff, and players to build something special.”

With McAllister’s leadership and legacy on their side, Ole Miss is poised to strengthen its standing in the ever-competitive SEC and beyond. His presence brings not only credibility but also a renewed sense of pride and unity to the Rebel family.
