During this afternoon’s commencement ceremony, 157 cadets from the Texas A&M University Corps of Cadets took the Oath of Office, officially commissioning into the United States Armed Forces. This solemn and proud moment represents the culmination of years of academic dedication, military training, leadership development, and personal sacrifice. As these young men and women transition from cadets to commissioned officers, they carry forward a legacy of service that is deeply embedded in the traditions of Texas A&M.
The Corps of Cadets is one of the oldest student organizations at Texas A&M University and remains one of the few programs outside of federal service academies that commissions officers into all branches of the military. Known for its rigorous training and strong values, the Corps instills in its members a deep sense of duty, discipline, and leadership. For these 157 individuals, the decision to serve is not taken lightly. It is a conscious choice to dedicate their lives to something greater than themselves—the defense and service of their country.
Taking the Oath of Office is more than a ceremonial tradition; it is a binding promise to uphold the Constitution of the United States, to defend the nation against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and to bear true faith and allegiance to the same. As these cadets recited the oath, they stepped into a new role as officers entrusted with immense responsibility. Whether they enter the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Space Force, or Coast Guard, each will be called upon to lead, make critical decisions, and exemplify the values of honor, integrity, and service.
The commissioning ceremony is also a moment of celebration for families, friends, faculty, and fellow Aggies. It represents years of hard work and growth, supported by a community that believes in the power of education and leadership. For many cadets, the road to commissioning was filled with early mornings, demanding physical training, challenging academics, and constant leadership responsibilities. The experience has forged bonds of camaraderie and resilience that will last a lifetime.
As these newly commissioned officers move forward, they join a proud lineage of Aggies who have served the nation in every conflict since the Spanish-American War. The Corps motto, “Once an Aggie, always an Aggie,” holds especially true for these graduates who will now represent both their university and their country. Their journey is just beginning, and the challenges ahead are real and significant. Yet, their time in the Corps has prepared them well for the demands of military life.
To the 157 cadets who took the Oath of Office today: thank you for your courage, your commitment, and your willingness to serve. Your dedication reminds us all of the values that define this country—duty, honor, and patriotism. As you embark on your military careers, know that the Texas A&M community stands behind you with pride and gratitude. May your service be marked by excellence and integrity, and may you continue to lead with the strength and character that the Corps of Cadets has instilled in you.
