Ohio State Announces Major Coaching News After Disappointing Season.
The Ohio State Buckeyes are coming off their first full season with Jake Diebler as the program’s head coach.
Finishing with 17 wins against 15 losses overall in the 2024-25 college basketball campaign, the Buckeyes decided to make a change in the coaching staff, with Diebler welcoming a new assistant in former Indiana Hoosiers coaching staff member Brian Walsh.
“I’m excited for Brian and his family to join our Ohio State Hoops family,” Diebler said in a statement published on the official website of the Ohio State men’s basketball team. “Brian is a proven recruiter with deep Midwest ties who has excelled at connecting with and developing players. His Big Ten scouting experience and analytics expertise are going to be a valuable asset to our program.
Walsh will be welcomed at Ohio State by a familiar face. Point guard Gabe Cupps transferred from Bloomington to Columbus last March after being coached by Walsh for two seasons at Indiana.
The Buckeyes hope that Walsh will be able to help Diebler turn things around for Ohio State, which hasn’t been to the Big Dance since 2022.
Many expected Ohio State to reach the 2025 national tournament, as the Buckeyes were ranked as high as No. 21 in the Associated Press Poll but suffered several losses toward the end of the regular season, including against Walsh’s Hoosiers before striking out in the first round of the Big Ten tourney.
