Georgia baseball coach Wes Johnson said that he’s not interested in the open Mississippi State coach job.
“I love Georgia,” he said to reporters on May 7. “I have no plans to venture to Starkville. I’ll just say that.”
MSU fired coach Chris Lemonis on April 28 in his seventh season, beginning a national search. Assistant coach Justin Parker is the interim coach with Mississippi State (29-19, 10-14 SEC) hosting No. 22 Ole Miss (33-15, 13-11) at Dudy Noble Field for a three-game series beginning May 9 (7:30 p.m., SEC Network). It would’ve been shocking for Johnson to blatantly say he’s interested in the Mississippi State job. Coaches typically don’t do that. However, his comments don’t completely rule him out as a candidate for MSU.
Here’s why Mississippi State could be interested in hiring Johnson as the next coach.
