In a bold move that’s turning heads across the college football world, Florida Gators quarterback DJ Lagway has reportedly turned down a jaw-dropping $6.5 million Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) offer from the University of Southern California (USC). The offer, which could have made him one of the highest-paid college athletes, was declined as Lagway chose to remain loyal to the Gators and focus on his long-term goals.
Lagway, who has already made a name for himself with his impressive on-field performances, is also gaining attention for his off-field actions. Earlier this year, he announced a six-figure donation from his NIL earnings to support women’s sports at the University of Florida. His donation benefited multiple programs including volleyball, gymnastics, women’s basketball, and softball.
Taking his impact a step further, Lagway also launched the DJ Lagway Foundation in partnership with UF Health. The foundation supports local youth through food drives, mentorship programs, and football camps—cementing his commitment to community upliftment.
Despite receiving a higher NIL valuation of $3.8 million and endorsement deals with major brands like Gatorade, Nintendo, and Epic Games, Lagway’s decision to reject the USC offer reflects his dedication to building a legacy beyond just financial success.
While the $6.5 million figure has yet to be officially confirmed by either university, the move signals a new era of college athletes who are placing loyalty, leadership, and social responsibility at the forefront.
