Chaos at Texas: Star WR Matthew Golden Thrown Out After Explosive Clash with Coach

Austin, TX — May 4, 2025

The calm of spring practice shattered into chaos yesterday when rising star wide receiver Matthew Golden was forcibly removed from the University of Texas training facilities following a heated—and reportedly physical—altercation with Wide Receivers Coach Darnell Franklin.

Multiple sources inside the Longhorns program describe the scene as “volatile,” with tensions erupting just minutes into the morning session. Eyewitnesses claim the confrontation began with a verbal disagreement over route discipline, but quickly escalated into shouting, swearing, and eventually shoving.

“It wasn’t just a disagreement,” one player told us under condition of anonymity. “Golden was screaming in his face, calling him out in front of everyone. Then Coach Franklin got up in his grill and boom—chairs got knocked over.”

Security was called when Golden, visibly enraged, reportedly threw his helmet across the locker room, narrowly missing a staff member. The situation spiraled further as Franklin and Golden had to be physically separated by multiple assistant coaches.

The fallout was immediate.

By mid-afternoon, Coach Steve Sarkisian had issued a terse statement:

“Matthew Golden has been removed from team activities pending further evaluation. We hold all members of this program to the highest standard of conduct.”

Golden, a transfer from Houston and one of the most explosive playmakers in the Big 12, was projected to be a central figure in Texas’s 2025 offense. His absence leaves a gaping hole in the Longhorns’ aerial attack and casts a dark cloud over a program already under pressure to deliver in the post-Arch Manning era.

More News:  Georgia wide receiver Luke Bennett, brother of former QB Stetson Bennett IV, has entered the NCAA transfer portal seeking new opportunities.

Speculation is swirling over what led to such a breakdown. Some insiders point to Golden’s frustrations with what he viewed as “old-school coaching methods,” while others suggest long-simmering tensions between player and coach had simply reached a boiling point.

“He’s passionate, but there’s a line,” another team staffer said. “And today, he crossed it.”

Whether this is a temporary explosion or the end of Golden’s career in burnt orange remains uncertain. But one thing is clear: the University of Texas is now ground zero for one of the most dramatic player-coach meltdowns college football has seen in years.

And the cameras are already rolling.
